This coffee is round and pleasant, an overall really enjoyable cup with notes of chocolate and walnuts, finishing with a slight acidity reminiscent of cranberry juice and crisp grapes.

The washed process involves removing the coffee cherry’s outer layers through fermentation. After depulping the coffee cherries, the beans ferment in water, separating fruit from the beans. This method enhances the clarity and brightness of the coffee, often bringing out the coffee’s acidity and highlighting its unique origin flavors.

San José del Lago is situated in the western highlands of Guatemala, nestled between multiple volcanoes and offering breathtaking views over Lake Atitlán. The farm spans 200 hectares, with 45 dedicated to coffee cultivation and the remainder preserved as a natural reserve. Established in the early 1900s, the farm has diversified into bananas and avocados, but coffee remains the family’s primary passion since the 1940s. Eduardo, the owner, has invested in a small wet mill to ensure exceptional coffee production. The farm is also committed to social responsibility and environmental conservation, donating land for a local school and a health assistance center.
